PETROLEUM CONTAMINATION NOT POTSDAM'S FAULT, ENGINEER SAYS—Brian Jacot told the Potsdam Town Council Tuesday oil residue underneath the currently-under-renovation 35 Market Street can be traced to an under-sidewalk tank at adjacent 33 Market in the early 1970's—when that building was a liquor store. Jacot says the state DEC will likely take no enforcement steps; however the DEC Spill Fund can be applied to for the Town to be reimbursed for its cleanup costs.
