DISCOVERY OF MORE ASBESTOS DELAYS 35 MARKET STREET RENOVATION PROJECT—Town Supervisor Marie Regan said Wednesday Atlantic Testing staff found asbestos-laden tile as demolition work was set to begin on the interior of the former Town Office and Court. The building will become a stand-alone Town Court, while a new building at 18 Elm Street will hold the remaining offices. The discovery of more asbestos puts the timetable for Court to return to the old building to a date beyond the end of the lease for the temporary space the Town is using, 12 Elm. Regan says a room in the new building, set to be done in early December will hold Court until 35 Market is done. Regan also said to the Town Council Wednesday night the asbestos discovery supports the Town's need to renovate the old building, “....if it were a private building, it would have been condemned years ago.”
