TELE-WORKING FROM HOME IN THE NORTH COUNTRY CAN GET LONELY—North Country Regional Economic Development Council Co-Chair and Clarkson University President Tony Collins said Friday at the keynote for the “Forever Wired” conference on the campus that efforts continue to make it easier for people to live in the North Country and work well-paying jobs in major cities online. He says the business incubator in Peyton Hall downtown has an area where about 20 or so tele-workers can work together in the same room, which has done a great deal for them not to feel isolated. He also says a “spousal issue” exists at Clarkson where the University often draws a professor, but the spouse has a job he or she can't leave—and teleworking provides the opportunity for the spouse to bring the job to the North Country. Collins says a goal is to draw well-moneyed people who have second homes in the North Country to live here permanently by providing ways to communicate with the “home office”.
