ANOTHER MEGA-REUNION? MAYBE—Phil Demarest, a 1970 Potsdam High School graduate who had a key role in organizing a weekend of events that just wrapped up Sunday, says living in California makes it difficult to put together a large-scale reunion of a classmates in his hometown. But, he says his original thought of “one-and-done” changed when he saw the number of alumni that came home for the weekend. Close to a thousand alumni, friends, and family visited over the course of three days. Although the organized events were better-attended than expected, many alumni said informal gatherings at people's homes and local restaurants were gangbusters....and gave businesses that sell food, beverages, and especially ice brisk traffic.

MULTIPLE INJURIES, CHARGES FROM NORWOOD-AREA MINIVAN-PICKUP COLLISION—Sheriff's deputies say 25-year-old Donald Gonyea was backing a pick-up out of the driveway of his residence on County Route 35 about 6:45 Sunday night, into the path of a mini-van driven by 41-year-old Andrew Dennis of Pollock Road in Madrid. Dennis and his two small sons in the mini-van with him were all hurt. Numerous fire and rescue squads, and Norwood Village Police assisted at the scene. Gonyea was ticketed for failure to yield and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation.

SEX FELON ALLEGEDLY FAILS TO REGISTER PROPERLY, JAILED WITHOUT BAIL—Deputies allege 33-year-old Eric Walrath lied on forms filed with their office that he moved from County Route 6 in Ogdensburg to Jones Road in Canton July 30th—that he in fact moved many days before that. Walrath was convicted in 2000 of molesting a child under the age of 11; he is listed as a “high risk,” or Level 3 offender and as a “sexually violent offender”.
