    TOURISM EXPANSION IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT BROADBAND, CELL—Congressional candidate Matt Doheny told county chamber officials Thursday he “totally gets it” when it comes to the need for expanded wireless communication. Chamber marketing, tourism, and outreach coordinator Alison Power told Doheny tourists looking to find restaurants, etc. cannot do so without wireless coverage.

    DROWNING DEATH OF BRASHER GIRL ON ALLEN'S FLOW RULED ACCIDENTAL—6-year-old Angel Sochia was found unresponsive Friday evening in waters off Rosenbarker Drive in Parishville; she was pronounced dead at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. The call came in about 6:30 Friday night, promting a full scale search by fire and rescue volunteers and the county dive team.

    MASSENA SNAKE SEARCH CONTINUES—A large, reportedly aggressive snake was spotted Thursday night in the Northview Drive neighborhood; police found a smaller snake meeting the description but the larger one remains on the loose. The snake is described as over five feet long, about four inches thick, dark in color with red marks.

    COCAINE SUSPECT PICKED UP IN POTSDAM—23-year-old Cody Pernice was arrested in the Village Friday on a bench warrant from county court charging him with three felony sale counts, related to alleged sales and trafficking in the Potsdam area. Pernice was held without bail until arraignment. The county Drug Task Force investigation continues.

    POTSDAM VILLAGE PLANNERS SEE PROPOSED COTTAGE LAND SUB-DIVISION—The Planning Board may vote later this month whether or not Chason Affinity Companies may set aside a 14.5 acre parcel to build a proposed 100-unit housing complex on Outer Main Street. The Board saw the plans Thursday. Members of the audience expressed concern about sidewalks, water and sewer, and drainage. Planners say those topics are not germane to the sub-division of land.
