LATE BLIGHT RISK NOW LOW IN THE NORTH COUNTRY, BUT THAT COULD CHANGE FAST—Cornell Cooperative Extension Horticulture and Natural Resource Educator Paul Hetzler in Canton says weather conditions have not been favorable for the devastating fungus to be carried to Northern New York; there has been enough sun to kill the spores. However, Hetzler says potatoes in the North Country that were not pulled last year could harbor the disease and cause problems. And, if the weather changes so there is tropical humidity and wet leaves, the spores could impact here. Late Blight affects potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant; any member of the “Nightshade” family of plants.
