    WINDS WILL EASE HEAT'S OPPRESSION, SOMEWHAT, FORECASTER SAYS—National Weather Service meteorologist Eric Evenson at the Burlington, Vermont bureau covering St. Lawrence County says the fact there will be circulating air in the system delivering near-100-degree heat indices by Wednesday and Thursday, gives relief to some degree. Humidity will still be high, however.

    EDUCATOR, LEADER STAN HOWLETT EXPIRES—E. Stanley Howlett III of Potsdam passed away Sunday at a nursing home in Russell; he was 79. Howlett retired as Superintendent of Canton Central School in the early 1990's, after about 40 years in education beginning as an English teacher and guidance counselor. Howlett is perhaps best known for decades of volunteer work on several key boards. He was chair of the board at Canton-Potsdam Hospital and chair of the Potsdam Village Zoning Board of Appeals. He also chaired the 2001 Village Comprehensive Plan Committee. Howlett was also a longtime Hospice volunteer and held several posts at Trinity Episcopal Church in Potsdam. Funeral arrangements are with Garner Funeral Service, Potsdam and are yet to be finalized.

    WEGATCHIE DOMESTIC DISPUTE SENDS ANTWERP MAN TO JAIL—State Police in Gouverneur say 29-year-old Christopher Sweet allegedly threw a bicycle into his live-in female companion's vehicle several times during an altercation Saturday night at their residence on County Route 12 in Rossie. Sweet was charged with felony criminal mischief, arraigned and jailed on 5-thousand-dollars cash bail or 10-thousand-dollars bail bond.
