COUNTY LIBERTARIAN LEADER CALLS FEDS INSTALLING CAMERAS ON POLES "ORWELLIAN"--Lee Monnet of Ogdensburg, the de facto leader of Libertarians in the St. Lawrence County although there is no formal county Libertarian Party organization, told 99 News Friday he's afraid of what's next, with the news Federal law enforcement has installed license plate-reading devices on numerous utility poles. He said "....secure the Northern borders from what? How many terrorists are actually caught? hmmmm....how much marijuana is intercepted? a whole lot...So what is this coming down to?...."
FATAL CAR-PEDESTRIAN MISHAP IN FOWLER--Sheriff's Detectives and Deputies say 18-year-old James Gore of State Route 58 in Fowler perished from injuries he received when he was run over by a car driven by 18-year-old Tyler Sargent of US Route 11, Gouverneur about 10:50 Friday night. Gore apparently lay down in front of the vehicle as Sargent was attempting to leave Gore's residence, and Gore became trapped underneath. The accident is still under investigation; County Coroner June Wood declared Gore dead at the scene.
MASSENA PAROLEE IMPLICATED WITH KNIFE-WIELDING INCIDENT--Massena Police say 24-year-old Donald Fifield, Jr. of Carey Road was arrested at the St. Lawrence County Jail Thursday night on felony counts of Menacing and Criminal Weapon Possession; and several lesser counts alleging his role in a large fight on Center Street May 26th where he allegedly threatened several people with a knife. Fifield was already in the lockup on a charge alleging he violated parole from state prison. Fifield was returned to the lockup until a court date next Tuesday.
