EIGHTEEN CRIMINAL COUNTS, EIGHT OF THEM FELONIES ALLEGING MASSENA CREDIT CARD FRAUD—Massena Police arrested 24-year-old Floyd Smith, Jr. of Irish Settlement Road Waddington Sunday on felony counts of Forgery, Grand Larceny, and Stolen Property Possession; and misdemeanor Petit Larceny charges. No further details were available this morning. Smith was arraigned and jailed on 10-thousand-dollars cash bail or 20-thousand-dollars bail bond.
COUNTY CONSERVATIVES ENDORSE KIMMEL FOR ASSEMBLY, SAYS OPPONENT LACKED HUMILITY AND RESPECT—The Committee voted Friday to give its endorsement to 115th Assembly District Republican David Kimmel, running for the GOP nod to run for the seat currently held by Janet Duprey. Both Kimmel and Republican Karen Bisso were seeking the Committee's approval; they were both interviewed last month and were called back for the second round Friday. Bisso turned down the second interview. Committee members were offended for what they saw as Bisso's stand that she deserved the endorsement because of her success with Conservatives elsewhere in the district. Bisso's campaign manager, Russell Finley, a Conservative from Lisbon told us last month he felt the Committee was doing the bidding of Chair Hank Ford by not giving Bisso the endorsement right away, because of a personal vendetta Ford has against him. When asked about this last month, Ford declined to comment on the advice of state-level party officials. The 115th will include the towns of Colton, Hopkinton, Brasher, and Lawrence next year when redistricting takes effect.
PUBLIC LEWDNESS ALLEGATIONS FROM ALMOST TWO YEARS AGO PUT NORWOOD MAN IN JAIL WITHOUT BAIL—20-year-old Andrew Francis allegedly exposed himself to two underage girls on Broad Street in Potsdam in October, 2010. He was picked up Sunday by State Police in Massena on a bench warrant from Potsdam Village Court for failing to appear. Francis was arraigned before Justice Margaret Garner and committed until a May 23rd appearance.
