POTSDAM TRUSTEES END VILLAGE-PAID HEALTH INSURANCE FOR NEW BOARD MEMBERS, EFFECTIVE WEDNESDAY—The Village Board voted 3-2 Monday to end the perk; the issue has long been a bone of contention as the village asks employees to pay into their premiums. Trustee Ruth Garner called it a “feel-good” resolution that won't do anything; she and Trustee Ron Tischler voted no. Trustees including sponsor Eleanor Hopke say it's unfair for the Village to pay for Trustee health insurance while the job isn't even part-time, many people in the Village have no coverage at all, and Village employees are already paying in. Garner, Tischler, and Trustee Steve Warr all take the insurance; Warr voted in the majority to end the benefit.
