POTSDAM HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, PARENTS PICK OBAMA, OOT IN MOCK ELECTION--Potsdam High took part in the nationwide mock election sponsored by the National Parent-teacher organization and other groups. Barack Obama was chosen Tuesday for President by a margin of more than 4-to-1 over John Mc.Cain; Michael Oot was chosen for Congress with a margin of about 2-to-1 over John Mc.Hugh. Government teacher Joe VanElls told 99 News Friday the sample is indicative of the county-wide election habits, at least for the Presidential ticket. Participants were asked to choose a President from the past they would want to lead now. John Kennedy got the most votes, by far followed by Franklin Roosevelt.
CANTON GANG ASSAULT SUSPECTS INDICTED--A St. Lawrence County Grand Jury handed up three-count indictments against 17-year-old Roody Dorfeuille, 17-year-old Jevaughn Francis, and 19-year-old Daryl Tucker Friday charging them with attempted murder, assault, and gang assault for their alleged roles in the multiple stabbing of Matthew Rivera near the SUNY Canton foot bridges off Riverside Drive Sunday evening. Dorfeuille was arraigned on the indictment and remended back to St. Lawrence County Jail, with bail increased to 5-thousand dollars.
AMISH BUGGY ACCIDENT SENDS FIVE TO HOSPITAL--Sheriff's Deputies and Detectives say a horse and buggy was struck from behind by a vehicle on County Route 25 late Friday morning. A passenger, 42-year-old Aimee Douglas of hermon was ejected from the buggy; she, her husband who was conducting the buggy and their three small children were all transported by ambulance to Canton-Potsdam Hospital. The driver of the vehicle, 59-year-old Gary Coffey of hermon was unhurt. He has been ticketed for Reckless Driving and following too closely; the accident is still under investigation.
CLARKSON HILL FIGHT BRINGS THREE ARRESTS--Potsdam Police were called to a fight in progress about 11:40 last night. They saw 20-year-old Michael Pena of Fort Washington allegedly striking 25-year-old Steven Hale in the face. Hale was treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Both men were ticketed. A third alleged participant was also ticketed, 20-year-old Tyler Lyndaker of Croghan.
HALLOWEEN FIGHT AT HANNAWA FIRE STATION BRINGS ARREST--Sheriff's deputies arrested 31-year-old Joseph Robert of Canton Friday night on counts of Aggravated DWI and other counts alleging his role in a dispute at the fire station about 9pm. Robert was arraigned and released on court tickets.
