CANTON GANG ASSAULT-STABBING, ARREST MADE--Canton Police say they received a call about 8:43pm Sunday to a spot between the SUNY Canton foot bridges and Riverside Drive. The found 18-year-old Matthew Rivera of Bronx, NY with multiple stab wounds. He is still being treated at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Police with the assistance of SUNY Canton University Police believe the stabbing took place while a group of about 20 students were on their way to the movies, and Rivera was attacked by at least 3 males. One arrest has been made so far...17-year-old Jevaughn Francis of Bronx, NY was charged with Felony Gang Assault and a misdemeanor trespassing count. Francis was arraigned and jailed on 25-hundred dollars cash bail or 5-thousand dollars bail bond.
CANTON CAR-PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT SENDS TEEN TO HOSPITAL--16-year-old Devin Weed-Nichols of Canton was struck by a car as he was crossing East Main Street Sunday night. The car was driven by 59-year-old Marie Larder of Canton. The teen was treated and released from Canton-Potsdam Hospital; Larder was ticketed for failure to yield.
FELONY SEX CRIME CASE IN FOWLER--Sheriff's detectives say 22-year-old Leon Swem of Elmira Heights, NY allegedly forced himself upon a 16-year-old and allegedly tried to have deviate sex with the teen. Swem was charged with attempted criminal sexual act in the first degree, a felony and a misdemeanor forcible touching count. he was arraigned and released to probation until future court dates.
SERIOUS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE ALLEGATIONS IN MASSENA--State Police in Massena report 17-year-old Denis Benoit of Cornwall, Ontario allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a pen, destroyed her laptop computer, and damaged her car. Benoit was arrested Sunday on a felony criminal mischief count and other charges, arraigned and jailed on 25-hundred dollars cash bail or 5-thousand dollars bail bond.
