MASSENA TOWN COUNCIL PETITIONED TO CONTROL FARMING ODORS--the council was presented a petition with over 40 signatures Wednesday, demanding something be done to control manure fumes. James Farbotnick told the council liquid fertilizer contains toxic chemicals that are spread dangerously close to homes. Members of the council promised the petition would not be ignored.

RIVER DISTRICT CANDIDATES TAKE QUESTIONS AT CLARKSON--118th Assembly District candidates Addie Russell, Bob Cantwell, and Donald Lucas were on hand last night for a professional women's group-sponsored forum. Economic development and job growth questions were presented several times.

PIERREONT FIRE DESTROYS GARAGE, CONTENTS--Hannawa Falls firefighters and mutual aid were called to Old State Road about 6:30 last night to the residence of Garrison and Noreen Randall. Flames totaled the garage, a vehicle, a four-wheel ATV and other items. The house received some damage but was essentially saved. No injuries.

CANTON TOWN SUPERVISOR SAYS ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT 'PRETTY DECENT' FOR THE MONEY--The Town will see tax bills go up an average of 7 dollars next year. Members of the public blasted the council this week for what it spends on the economic development office, 80-thousand dollars for what it sees as minimal results. Button says compared to surrounding communities that have many more tools, the amount of grant money, etc. the town receives is 'excellent.'.
