TALARICO AND PISCALLI EARN SUNYAC HOCKEY HONORS SUNY Potsdam men's hockey players Shane Talarico and Billy Piscalli hae been recognized by the State University of New York Athletic Conference for their play last weekend. Talarico is the conference's Goalie of the Week and Pascalli is the Rookie of the Week.
Last Friday night, Talarico entered the game in relief after the Bears lost starter Jon Hall to injury. He responded with 22 saves in a critical 4-3 overtime victory against Brockport. His play earned him the starting nod against No. 14 Geneseo the following night. Talarico stopped 24 Ice Knight shots in a dramatic 4-3 overtime win on Saturday. The victory was the third of his collegiate career and his first as a starting goalie. The junior has posted a 3-3 record, a goals-against-average of 3.95 and a save percentage of .887 this season.
Pascalli had a three-point weekend for the Potsdam. Against the Golden Eagles, he had an assist and scored the game-winning goal 2:17 into overtime to keep the Bears' playoff hopes alive. Against Geneseo, the freshman recorded an assist in Potsdam's first win over a ranked team in four seasons. This year Pascalli is fifth on the team in scoring with seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points. His points are the fourth most from a freshman in the SUNYAC this year.
Spencer Patterson, St. Lawrence, Indoor track Performer of the Week Spencer Patterson was named the outstanding track performer of the meet at the Liberty League Championships, winning the 800 meters in 1:58.84 and the mile in 4:17.29, surpassing ECAC qualifying standards.
Nick Crawford, St. Lawrence, Indoor Track Rookie of the Week Nick Crawford joined Spencer Patterson as the only freshman event winners for men at the Liberty League championship, winning the 400 in 50.79. He also ran on the 3rd place 4x400 relay team.
Ella Martin, St. Lawrence, Indoor Track Performer of the Week Ella Martin was named the track performer of the meet at the Liberty League Championships winning both the mile and the 5000 in Liberty League meet record times of 5:04.78 and 17:32.48, respectively.
Divya Biswal, St. Lawrence, Indoor Field Performer Of The Week Divya Biswal was named the field performer of the week at the Liberty League Championships after winning three individual events and leading off a winning relay. She set the Liberty League meet record in the triple jump at 11.57 and won the long jump with a 5.29 meter leap, won the 60 hurdles in a SLU and Liberty League meet record 9.38 and led off the winning 4x200 relay team.
Marisa Turner, St. Lawrence, Indoor Track Performer Of the Week Marisa Turner was one of the leading first year scorers in the Liberty League Championship behind teammate Ella Martin. Turner tied for third in the high jump, was third in the 400 and led off the second place 4x400 relay to help the Saints to the team title for the third straight year.
