COUNTY LEADERS MAKE DIRECT SALES PITCH TO CUOMO FOR CASINO—Sam Burns, the Ogdensburg legislator who chairs the board's Economic Enhancement Sub-Committee, handed Governor Andrew Cuomo a pamphlet by a county task force asking him directly to consider St. Lawrence County as a site for one of three state-run casinos Cuomo proposes the State Legislature approve. Cuomo was asked by reporters after he appeared on the Clarkson University campus yesterday whether or not the nearby Akwesasne Mohawk Casino would factor into that consideration. Cuomo says the process will be competitive, based on economic impact and job generation—St. Lawrence County will compete just like any other.
