99 NEWS FOR JANUARY 12, 2013

STATE DOT SAYS "NO" TO SPEED ZONE REQUEST FROM ROUTE 72 NEIGHBORHOOD--Potsdam Town Supervisor Marie Regan told the Town Council this week the Town's lobbying of the agency, bolstered by a petition from over 50 residents of the Stafford's Corners neighborhood, was unsuccessful in getting a reduced speed along the highway in that stretch. Regan says "We did our best." A letter from the DOT says an assessment of the average speeds in the area did not merit a reduction. Neighborhood residents called for a speed zone in response to numerous accidents--one fatal--in the area last year.

ALLEGED "PEEPING TOM" CAUGHT--State Police based in Massena arrested 19-year-old Eric Deshane Thursday on a felony count of Unlawful Surveillance and other counts alleging he tried to take images of a female with a camera through a bathroom window in the Town of Lawrence. Deshane was released on court tickets.
