99 NEWS FOR WEDNESDAY, 1/9/13 PETROLEUM CONTAMINATION NOT POTSDAM'S FAULT, ENGINEER SAYS—Brian Jacot told the Potsdam Town Council Tuesday oil residue underneath the currently-under-renovation 35 Market Street can be traced to an under-sidewalk tank at adjacent 33 Market in the early 1970's—when that building was a liquor store. Jacot says the state DEC will likely take no enforcement steps; however the DEC Spill Fund can be applied to for the Town to be reimbursed for its cleanup costs. The 35 Market stand-alone courthouse will open in February; the new Town offices at 18 Elm will open sometime this month. Court will be in the new building temporarily until 35 is ready.
