Potsdam Men, Clarkson Women Win First Games Of The Season

MEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

POTSDAM 77, CLARKSON 65

The Bears win their first game of the season with a start to finsh effort against the Golden Knights.

Potsdam never trailed in the game as they held a 37-33 halftime advantage.  Mark Lake Jr. posted 11 first half points to lead the home team.

Clarkson made it a one point game haflway through the second half at 52-51 on two Jerry Coleman free thorws.  The Bears then mounted a 20-9 to go up by as much as 12 with Lake Jr. sparking the offense with 23 points leading all players.

Rob Duquette finished with 14 points 11 rebounds.  Colin Peterson added three threes and 13 points while Curtis Pierce dished out 11 points in the win.

For Clarkson, Jerry Coleman scored 22 points, Marques Charlton 16 and Feliz Abongo 13 points.

WOMEN'S COLLEGE BASKETBALL

CLARKSON 72, POTSDAM 58

A second halg surge helps the Golden Knights pick win number one of the season across town at Maxcy Hall.

Potsdam flew out to an 11-4 lead early on and 25-19 advantage later on only to see Clarkson take a one point lead at halftime.  katy briedis led the Bears at the break with 10 points. 

Clarkson broke a 37-37 tie in the second half on a Jovanna snead three pointer and never looked back.  The Golden Knights pressed on out scoring the Bears 32-11. 

Snead and Lieghanna Tomita proudced huge second halves as Tomita scored 15 for her team high 17 points in the second half going 8 for 11 from the foul line.  Snead finshed with three 3-pointers, all in the scond half, and 14 points.  Ashley Loggins added 12 and Brooke Butkovfsky eight points 10 boards. 

For the Bears, Katy Briedis scored a career high 28 points and jessica Kouzan added 11 in the loss.
