DRAINAGE, TRAFFIC CONCERNS FROM MEDICAL CAMPUS EXPANSION PROPOSAL EXPRESSED BY PLANNERS—The Potsdam Village Planning Board voted Thursday to table an application by Canton-Potsdam Hospital for a multi-million-dollar project at its Lawrence Avenue campus. Plans are to accommodate 10 new doctors and put Urgent Care on the property to relieve pressure on the main Leroy Street Campus. The tabling was done to allow St. Lawrence County Planners to review; the County review is mandatory because Lawrence Avenue is also US Highway 11. Architect Brooks Washburn says water vaults would be placed under the parking lot to handle runoff. Staff Planner Fred Hanss says about 400 more vehicle trips per day is anticipated—and that is tolerable. The Village Planning Board is expected to vote on the site plan November 15th.  The property in question is the former St. Mary's School.
