LOCAL SUNY COLLEGE FISCAL WOES FORECASTED—A preliminary model for 2013 shown to SUNY Potsdam Trustees Friday indicates the comprehensive and technical campuses—Potsdam and Canton included—will see serious fiscal hits next year. Natalie Higley, shared Chief Financial Officer for both campuses told us the model is based on enrollment, geographic location, and a research component—which is hurting campuses the most. Higley says the research component is based on Federal awards to campuses, not state dollars. She says comprehensive and technical campuses have their research components funded mostly by the state, so that will be the source of the biggest hit. Higley says the Canton campus will be hurt less than Potsdam because its enrollment is up.
