AIR AMBULANCE SERVICE AT DAMON FIELD TO BE RUNNING BY OCTOBER 1ST—Potsdam Village Administrator David Fenton told Tustees Monday Air Methods Corp. will start operations at the municipal airport soon. He says Public Works crews modified two buildings on the property to accommodate the service, and there will be some extra personnel on the site for training. Air Methods is the private company taking over the service gap when the MAST helicopter left Fort Drum.

FORT COVINGTON RAT PROBLEM RESOLVED—Attorney Mark Wells told WICY Radio in Malone this week the Town of Fort Covington did the right thing by spending about 6500 dollars for an exterminator to get rid of large, Norway Rats that invaded the former Fish's IGA building on Route 37. Wells was incensed when the rats started sunning themselves outdoors in open view. The rodents were apparently living off food left in the former grocery when it was shut down.

POTSDAM POLICE MOUNT UNDERAGE ALCOHOL SALE STING, NO ILLEGAL SALES MADE—Police said yesterday they were very pleased with the results of an initiative Monday where underage operatives went into 12 different businesses in the Village and tried to purchase alcoholic beverage. None succeeded.

GLOBAL WATER INFRASTRUCTURE EXPERT SAYS THE ENERGY IN WASTEWATER CAN HELP CLEAN IT—Dr. Dick Luthy was on the Clarkson University campus yesterday as part of the “New Horizons in Engineering” distinguished lecture series. Luthy says it's important to realize that wastewater is 99.9 percent water, the rest organic compounds—valuable tools to make the water useful again.
