DEAL TO SELL POWER FROM WEST DAM TO NATIONAL GRID SHOULD BE DONE SOON, ADMINISTRATOR SAYS--Potsdam Village Administrator David Fenton told Trustees last week the village is awaiting the results from a National Gid study on the West Dam Hydroelectric Project, and an arrangement to sell energy from the dam to the utility is expected to be completed within the next "couple of weeks". The deal allows the Village to recoup its investment from long-overdue plant on the Racquette River that has cost the Village at least 3 million dollars.
12 FELONIES FOR AKWESASNE MAN ACCUSED OF CHECK FRAUD--State Police in Massena say 26-year-old Adam Ortiz allegedly stole personal checks from a residence in Norfolk, and cashed them at a credit union in Massena. Ortiz allegedly swiped almost 65-hundred dollars from the account-holder. Ortiz was charged with Grand Larceny and Criminal Possesion of a Forged Instrument, arraigned and jailed on 3-thousand-dollars cash bail or 6-thousand-dollars bail bond.
REPEAT DRUNKEN DRIVING FELON PICKED UP ON THIRD FELONY SATURDAY--Massena-based State Police arrested 52-year-old Martin Rivers of Canton after a pullover on Andrews Street in the Village of Massena. Rivers has two previous felony drunken driving convictions. He was arraigned and released to probation at the suggestion of prosecutors.
