CLASS D BASEBALL QUARTERFINAL
PARISHVILLE-HOPKINTON 8, CHATEAUGAY 1
The first inning is all the Panthers needed in advancing in the Class D Baseball Tournament.
The Bulldogs challenged in the first inning, however a great defensive play at the plate would spark the Panthers. A one out single by Gareett LaBare led Matt Ryan to challenge the P-H defense but resulted in an 8-4-2 put out for the second out settling down the home team into a productive inning.
Scorng three in the bottom of the first, Zack Newton would drive in two runs with double, helping his own cause on the mound as he would shut out Chateaugay into the sixth.
Newton drove home a run in the third on a single and scored on a Mike Burns ground out to help the Panthers to a 5-0 lead. Parker Meashaw added a sacrifice RBI in the fifth before the Bulldogs broke the shut out when Joe McGuillacuddy scored on a LaBare sacrifice fly to center in the sixth.
The Panthers added two more in the seventh, more than enough for Newton who went the distance striking out four, walking four, and scattering five hits. At bat Newton had three hits, including a double, and four RBis scoring three times. Phil Huckins also scored three times.
For Chateaugay, Garrett LaBare struck out seven in four innings and Greg Holmes singled.
Parishville-Hopkinton travels to Morristown for a Semi-Final match up on Tuesday.
