99 NEWS FOR MONDAY, 5/7/12 FELONY CHECK FRAUD-RELATED COUNTS FILED IN FRANKLIN COUNTY AGAINST TWO ST.LAWRENCE COUNTY MEN—State Police in Malone and Ray Brook say 38-year-old Mark Buffham of Canton and 41-year-old Gerold Dissottle of Norfolk allegedly made numerous purchases of electronics and construction equipment using bogus checks. No further details were released. Buffham was charged with numerous counts of Grand Larceny, a felony fraud charge and a misdemeanor count of petit larceny. Dissottle was charged with felony possession of stolen property. Both men were arraigned and jailed in Malone...Buffham on 25-thousand-dollars cash bail or 50-thousand-dollars bail bond, Dissottle on 15-thousand-dollars cash bail or 30-thousand-dollars bail bond. ROUTE 11 CANTON CRASH CLAIMS LIFE OF POTSDAM WOMAN—74-year-old Eleanor Uffer of State Street perished as a result of injuries she received Sunday afternoon as the vehicle she was operating crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided with a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Zachary Benson of Gouverneur. Both Benson and his passenger, 25-year-old Domique Huckins of the same Sleepy Hollow Rd, Gouverneur address were treated and released from Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center in Ogdensburg. Uffer was pronounced dead at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. Sheriff's Detective Gus Burns says neither alcohol nor drugs is believed to be a factor; the investigation of the fatal crash is ongoing. Uffer was the retired longtime art teacher at the now-defunct SUNY Potsdam Campus School. ALSO ONLINE TODAY.....
