99 NEWS FOR FRIDAY, 4/27/12

BOCES SUPERINTENDENT SAYS LEADERS NEED TO THINK GLOBALLY, LINKING EDUCATION WITH BUSINESS--St.Lawrence-Lewis BOCES Superintendent Tom Burns told the audience gathered for lunch after the annual "Gateways To Careers" event in Potsdam Wednesday research is showing the US is in the middle of the pack as far as academic performance is concerned--this is because schools need to do a better job of preparing students for the working world by way of internships, partnerships, and other forms of collaboration to create multiple pathways to the job market. Burns says we don't have to go far for a model; nearby Ontario is one of the top provinces in Canada for academic perfomance; Canada is in the world top ten for its educational system that prepares students for careers. 44 percent of high school students in the local BOCES region are enrolled at a BOCES Career-Technical Center.
