FORD: "THE TREE-HUGGERS HAVE HAD IT LONG ENOUGH"--St. Lawrence County Conservative Patry Chairman Henry "Hank" Ford said Sunday as the party executive committee was interviewing candidates seeking its endorsement, that hikers, cross-country skiiers, and other non-motorized recreation users of trails on state-owned land should pay a "user fee"--the same way snowmobilers and ATV riders pay in the form of registration fees. Ford said "...it's time for the state to have somebody go in there, and pardon the expression, have the balls to stand up and say 'you guys are going to pay a user fee.' Ford said he told State Senator Joe Griffo nobody has the guts to say that, for fear of not being elected again. Ford said there's an untapped revenue source of tens of millions of dollars the state is not taking advantage of, because of the inequity.
