99 NEWS FOR WEDNESDAY, 3/7/12 WAR OF 1812 MILITARY UNIFORM AT POTSDAM PUBLIC MUSEUM DESCRIBED AS A “MAJOR, SPECIAL FIND”--Museum Director Miriam (“Mimi”) VanDeusen told Village Trustees Monday the uniform was discovered in January as staff were doing the annual inventory. The uniform is believed to have been worn by Shubel Clark of Canton, an artilleryman with the New York Detached Militia stationed at Ogdensburg. The coat was authenticated by State Museum officials in Albany; it has its original brass buttons. The uniform is described by VanDeusen as being in “superb” condition. The region is celebrating the bicentennial of the War of 1812 this year. ALSO ONLINE TODAY...
