TOWN OF POTSDAM TRYING TO EARN MORE INTEREST REVENUE—The Council was told Tuesday it learned it's against the law to put the people's money into a credit union, it must use a bank. The Town is disappointed with the current interest rates on savings, low throughout the banking industry. Treasurer Margaret Bruso found Seacomm Federal Credit Union had a favorable interest rate, but the legality prevents municipal deposit. Attorney Frank Cappello says a bank secures municipal funds with its own money for the entire amount of deposit, not just the Federal deposit insurance.
