SUNY Canton Hockey Second Seed in ECHL Tournament

SUNY CANTON SECOND SEED IN ECHL TOURNAMENT

Eastern Collegiate Hockey League tournament at SUNY Canton have been announced.  SUNY Canton has earned the No. 2 seed and will have a first-round bye.

The opening round of the tournament starts on Friday, Feb. 24 with No. 4 University of Buffalo playing No. 5 Canisius College at 5:30 p.m. and No. 3 Niagara University playing No. 6 RIT at 8:30 p.m.

The Roos, who are the defending champions, will play the highest remaining seed on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. while top-seeded and regular season champions Mercyhurst University will play the lowest remaining seed at 4 p.m.  The championship game is slated for Sunday, Feb. 26 at 1:30 p.m.


TAYLOR HONORED BY SUNYAC, SETS RECORDS AT SUNYAC SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS
SUNY Potsdam junior swimmer Alexander Taylor was named the State University of New York Athletic
Conference's Athlete of the Week for swimming for the week ending Feb. 12.

At the SUNYAC Championships in Buffalo over the weekend, Taylor won the 100 and 200
breaststroke events. He set four Potsdam records and one conference mark on his way
to being named the Outstanding Male Swimmer of the Meet.

On Thursday, the junior broke his own 200 individual medley school record with a
time of 1:56.80 in the preliminaries. On Friday, Taylor set a new Potsdam mark in
the 100 breaststroke with a time of 0:57.89. In the finals, he topped the record
again for a new Potsdam mark of 0:57.67 to win the event. Saturday, he captured the
200 breaststroke with a Potsdam and SUNYAC record time of 2:06.61.
