POTSDAM, CANTON CENTRAL SCHOOLS WANT ANSWER FROM STATE ED WHY THEY'RE "AVERAGE NEED"--Both districts have taken serious aid hits the past few years when compared with other poor, local rural schools because of the 'average' designation. Most schools in the area qualify as "high need" Potsdam Superintendent Pat Brady told the Board of Education last night about a meeting January 4th with state officials which Canton Superintendent Bill Gregory also attended. Brady says neither Potsdam nor Canton taxpayers have the cash wealth to endure the cuts, although the districts both have extensive property assets. Brady says State Ed. had no answers at the meeting, but would explain in the near future.
