POTSDAM TRAFFIC ROUNDABOUT IDEA DISCUSSED--The Village Comprehensive Plan Committee Member Marilee Ballou said earlier this month the discussions connected with the Downtown Waterfront Revitalization plan included the idea of creating a "traffic circle" at the convergence of Market, Main, and Maple Streets; a sticking point with motorists ever since the elimination of Water Street during 1970's-era Urban Renewal. Ballou says members of the public have lamented the inability to make a left turn onto Market from Maple, and having to go "up and around" to Division or Park Street to get to Market. Planning and Development Director Fred Hanss says no formal engineering has been done on the concept, but could if the interest and funding is there.

MASSENA WOMAN PERISHES IN LOUISVILLE CRASH--State Police say 48-year-old Lori Sovie received fatal injuries when the car she was driving North on Route 56 collided head-on with an SUV near the intersection of Route 37 about 7:20 Sunday night. The driver of the SUV, 51-year-old Robert Rush of Massena and two passengers were not seriously hurt. The crash is still under investigation.

ALLEGED SNOWMOBILE THIEF SPENDS PART OF CHRISTMAS IN JAIL--Canton-based State Police say 19-year-old Dakota Middlemiss of Buck Road in Madrid allegedly swiped a sled from a location off County Route 14 in Waddington Sunday; the owner of the machine was able to trace tracks in snow to Middlemiss's residence where the sled was found. Middlemiss was arraigned on a felony count of fourth degree grand larceny and committed in lieu of 2-thousand-dollars cash bail or 4-thousand-dollars bail bond.
