99 NEWS FOR WEDNESDAY, 12/7/11 POTSDAM TRUSTEE SAYS POLICE COST STUDY COMMITTEE UNNECESSARY, TRUMPED BY MAJORITY—The board voted Monday to form a committee charged with finding ways to moderate short and long-term costs within the police department, something now-Mayor Steve Yurgartis has wanted since he was a Trustee, to ease the future burden of personnel retirement cost estimated to be in the 16-million-dollar range with no money in the bank to pay for it. Ruth Garner says the budget is gone through at least four times before it's adopted each year, and it's arrogant to tell police how to do their jobs. Yurgartis says his issue is purely financial. The vote was 3-1; Trustee Ron Tischler is Police Chief Ed Tischler's brother and abstained, Yurgartis and Trustees Eleanor Hopke and Steve Warr voted yes. Hopke and Warr are on the committee. Garner voted no; Garner was offered a seat on the committee and refused it. ALSO ONLINE TODAY.....
