POTSDAM TRUSTEES MAKE THEIR STANDS ON DISSOLUTION FORMAL--The board had a discussion about the dissolution issue Monday before their regular meeting, at the request of Tustee George Regan who suggested the board take the opportuinity to make the public aware of how all members feel. Trustee Steve Yurgartis says cost savings would be one-third of one percent, so dissolution is a not a good idea. Regan said "I have no doubt someday the Village will dissolve, but now is not the time." Trustee and Deputy Mayor Ruth Garner says people are willing to pay for the services the Village provides, at the quality it provides them. Warr, pro-dissolution, says the discussions are about services and police, not tax savings primarily, and that the Town has shown it does not want police coverage outside the Village. Mayor Ron Tischler says the greatest fear is fear of the unknown, and he does not support dissolution now. Garner says there are no guarantees if the police contract is opened up for negotiations. Village voters will decide in November whether or not the Village government should become one with the Town of Potsdam.
