99 NEWS FOR SATURDAY, 10/1/11 ENGLISH TEAM WINS WORLD CARP ANGLING CHAMPIONSHIP--Ian Chillcott of Aldershot and Lee Jackson of Dartford, Kent; friends who never fished together before, reeled in the $16,800 top prize Friday after a week-long competition that saw 56 teams from throughout the globe fishing on the St.Lawrence River for a 115 continuous hours. Chillcott and Jackson netted a total of 122 carp, with a total weight of 1857 pounds, 3 ounces. Jackson, a former British record-holder for a 61-pound, 7-ounce carp caught in 2002 says the size of the St.Lawrence River habitat, and the challenges of fishing around the ongoing shipping in the channel are unique, in addition to the size and liveliness of the carp. Jackson says it was "the maddest swim I've ever fished in." Chillcott says "if fishing is an escape, then carp fishing is the great escape." Teams from 16 different countries participated...the US, The Netherlands, South Africa, the Czech Republic, and Romania among them. Competition was intense; there was a 6-ounce difference between 3rd and 4th place. ALSO ONLINE TODAY....
