CONGRESSMAN OWENS WILL HAVE DIRECT INVOLVEMENT WITH LOCAL ECON DEV COUNCIL—Bill Owens, who represents New York's 23^rd Congressional District told us Monday after walking the Massena Solidarity Day Parade that he has been appointed as an adjunct to the “Canadian” working group, and the “Cluster” working group of the North Country Regional Economic Development Council. Owens says he still believes Canada is where many of the new jobs in the North Country will come from, saying “...is a company going to come up North from Alabama? Not likely.” Ogdensburg is an example of what Owens is talking about, with several defense-related companies working in the OBPA Park. Plattsburgh recently landed Laurentian, an aerospace company that is poised to generate hundreds of jobs on-site, and perhaps thousands when spin-off work is included. The next regular meeting of the Council is this Friday at host institution SUNY Potsdam.
