OGDENSBURG MAYOR SUPPORTS DEFEATING 2-PERCENT CAP--Bill Nelson, a Republican running for another term told 99 News at a county Conservative Party fund-raising event last week he supports efforts by St.Lawrence County Legislators to defeat the cap. He says eliminating entire programs and departments, that would occur in a 2-percent tax hike scenario has a 'snowballing' effect, where people are worse off in the long run. Nelson says he realizes tax hikes are not in the GOP-Conservative mind-set, but these are extraordinary times. Nelson has competition in his re-election bid from independent candidate Jack Mc.Grath, President of the Ogdensburg Chamber of Commerce Board.
