SCHWALLER: 13 MILLION DOLLARS LESS IS THE “NEW REALITY”, BUDGET-WISE—SUNY Potsdam President Dr. John Schwaller gave a grim picture of the college's finances Thursday in his “State Of The College” address. He says a 300-dollar, per student, per year tuition increase for the next five years will recover barely half of what the state has taken back, and will barely keep up with inflation. He also says “quick fixes” like using the one-million-dollar contingency fund last year and this year, are not sustainable and must end. Despite the fiscal woes, Schwaller says faculty and staff have shown a “high degree of professionalism and character, with much to be proud of.”
