Rovers and Maples Tie After Nine Innings, Suspended Due To Darkness
99 SPORTS FEATURE GAME ON 99.3 FM WSNN

SUMMER LEAGUE BASEBALL

OGDENSBURG 5, NORFOLK 5 (F/9)
(Called Due to Darkness)

The Rovers were unable to complete a comeback before the sun set in Raymondville ending the baseball game in a tie after nine scheduled innings.

The Maples built a 5-1 lead after five innings backboned by a four run fifth.  Bryant Wentworth laid down a perfect bunt down the third baseline that scored Jared Knowlton all the way from second as the throw went to first.  Jon Taylor and Andrew LeBeau both sacrificed in runs and Eric Mehaffey was walked with the bases loaded to help Ogdensburg to the lead.

Depsite troubles on the mound in that inning, the Rover's Cody Smith did not allow a run the rest of the way scattering eigth hits and striking out seven in a complete game effort.

Norfolk's rally commenced when for the second straight game against relief pitcher Eric Mehaffey, Jeff Hyde belted a home run to lead off the fifth.  In the seventh, with two outs and two on base, Jordan Lshomb swung and missed for strike three but the pitch was dropped by the Ogdensburg catcher allowing Lashomb to take first base.  The next batter Ben Miller singled up the middle to score Jim Miller and then Cody Smith got himself off the hook with a two run two out double to tie the game.

The Maples lined out into a 4-4-3 double play to end the top of the ninth and then Mehaffey retired three in a row to close out the bottom of he ninth before the teams decided that there was not enough light at dusk to finish the game.

For Ogdensburg, Jared Knowlton singled twice and starter Lefty Arseneault struck out nine in four innings, giving up one run on four hits.

For Norfolk, Jeff Hyde scored three times and went 2 for 3.  Cody Smith also went 2 for 3.
he game will be resumed next week.
