RE-CAST WEST DAM HYDRO TURBINE BLADES EXPECTED TO BE SHIPPED THIS WEEK--Village Administrator David Fenton told Trustees Monday the specially-fabricated blades from Italy will be shipped first to Ontario for tuning, then shipped to Potsdam for installation. The first batch of blades was defective, causing a delay of several months. The West Dam Hydro Plant is nearly three years overdue; a forecast the project would be done by the end of this month appears to be off.

PARISHVILLE TEEN FACES FELONY SEX CRIME CHARGE IN POTSDAM--Village Police arrested 18-year-old Brady Malone Tuesday on a count of third degree aggravated sexual abuse, alleging he had relations with a 13-year-old female with whom he had cell phone and text communication. Malone was arraigned and released to probation supervision until future court dates.

BEATING AT POTSDAM TAVERN BRINGS CHARGES FOR TWO WOMEN--26-year-old Megan Hogle and 23-year-old Kayla Ryan were arrested on misdemeanor counts alleging Hogle struck a woman in the face, breaking her nose in the restroom of La Casbah July 9th, and that Ryan allegedly prevented the victim from leaving the room. Both woman were released on tickets for village court.

GOUVERNEUR TEEN MISSING, SEARCH IS ON--16-year-old Justine Wells was last seen Monday, July 11th. She is described by state police as 'very petite'--about 5'1" and under 100 lbs. She has long, dark curly hair, glasses, and a nose piercing. Anyone with information is asked to call the nearest state police station immediately. Gouverneur station can be reached at 287-2870, Canton 379-0012.

SPECIAL FROM THE 99 NEWS ARCHIVES: AUGUST, 1987: 99 News remembers former Potsdam Mayor Paul Claffey, who passed away this past Saturday in Maryland at age 90. Claffey was interviewed at the time about an issue still on the minds of local government today...sales tax revenue. Claffey said at the time the dstribuition back from the county should have been based on population instead of assessment, as Potsdam's population of students and university faculty generated at the time 25 percent of all the sales tax generated in the county and only got back a small percentage. The formula is now  50-50.
