POTSDAM SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS WARN CAUTION, BUT TO BE UNAFRAID WITH MEDICAID BILLING--The School District will soon resume billing Medicaid for speech therapy, physical therapy, and similar services to special education students, after many years of not pursuing it. About 25-thousand-dollars is expected to come back to the district from the reimbursements. Board member Chris Cowen, a past president of the Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad says if there's an audit the school district will have to prove it's right, even if the government's wrong. Pat Turbett, former Chair of the St.Lawrence County Legislature says the Medicaid system is less daunting than it appears.
ST.LAWRENCE COUNTY LEGISLATORS, STAFF TO LOOK AT COMP TIME--Legislator Donald Peck said Monday if cutting costs is what they're looking at, then the amount of comp time staff are paid to attend Legislature meetings needs to be scrutinized. Administrator Karen St. Hilaire told the board not all time staff spends on county business outside of work need be paid. Chair Sallie Brothers, a retired teacher says teachers don't get paid for all the extra time they put in; Peck says members of the public have been showing up for meetings more and more, and they certainly don't get comp time.
