VILLAGE POLICE NOT NEEDED OUTSIDE OF FORMER VILLAGE LIMITS IF DISSOLUTION OCCURS, CITIZEN SAYS--the Potsdam Village-Town Joint Dissolution Study Committee took public input Wednesday on its report about options for services, should the Village dissolve into the Town of Potsdam and form one, consolidated government. One of the suggestions is to make the current village police a town-wide force. Bob Regan, a Town-outside resident of Route 56 North told the Committee there would have to be more police officers hired to cover outside the Village limits, and there has never been a need for that kind of coverage...so that would be a waste of time and resources. Committee member Mark Lee told Regan hiring more staff was not in the scope of the Committee discussion, but the 2-thousand percent increase in coverage area is a concern. A proposition to dissolve is expected to be on this November's general election ballot.
