INCUMBANT STATE SUPREME COURT JUSTICE GETS COUNTY CONSERVATIVE NOD--Justice John Lahtinen, a Republican Appellate Justice based in Plattsburgh, received the endorsement Thursday of the St.Lawrence County Conservative Party Committee in his bid for a second, 14-year term. Lahtinen told 99 News Thursday he believes in a literal interpretation of law, for example in his majority decision on same-sex marriage he could neither support nor deny a same-sex marriage because there is no legislation in place at this time. Lahtinen serves the 4th Judicial District, that covers most of Northern New York from the Canadian border to just outside the Capital District. The seat held by Canton-based Justice David Demarest is not up for election until 2021. Three seats are open in the district this year.
