CANTON METH LAB PARTS DISCOVERY LEADS TO THREE ARRESTS--Canton Police and the St.Lawrence County Drug Task Force raided a residence at 211 King St. in Rensselaer Falls Thursday, based on evidence obtained after components used to make meth--gas cans, tubing, and soda bottles--were found in a dumpster behind the Canton hi-rise apartments on Riverside Drive the day before. The raid turned up a working lab in a garage, and three suspects, all charged with felony counts of making marijuana and disposing of meth lab material. 38-year-old Shannon Schwartfigure was arraigned and jailed without bail; 23-year-old Michael Amato and 23-year-old Ian Rounseville were arraigned and jailed on 50-thousand dollars cash bail or 100-thousand dollars bail bond. The group allegedly cooked up meth using cold medicines obtained from local stores as the base.
FOUR AKWESASNE RESIDENTS CAUGHT WITH POT IN ADIRONDACKS--Ray Brook-based State police pulled over a vehicle on Route 30 in the Town of Brighton Tuesday. Over a pound of dope was found. 44-year-old Robert Smoke, 18-year-old Cecelia Sharrow, and 39-year-old LeeAnn Sharrow--all of Snye, Quebec; and 33-year-old Alan Gray of Hogansburg were all charged with felony possession. No further details were available.
RITCHIE SUGAR SHACK BILL IN ASSEMBLY COMMITTEES--A bill sponsored by 48th District Senator and Ag Committee Chair Patty Ritchie would give maple sugar operations lee-way in compliance with state regulations for sprinkler systems and other costly mandates, by making sugar shacks an 'agricultural' structure.
