GRIFFO BILL PASSES 60-0 IN SENATE, MAKING CRIMINAL INTERFERENCE OF A FUNERAL SERVICE A MISDEMEANOR, FELONY--The 47th District State Senator says the bill gives people the same protections that already exists for protests at family planning centers. The legislation would make undue harassment at a funeral service a misdemeanor on the first conviction, the second a felony. The bill was written in response to the US Supreme Court ruling that protests by Westboro Baptist Church at military funerals are protected free speech under the First Amendment.
