99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR TUESDAY, 3/29/11

"WHAT EXISTS" REPORT FROM POTSDAM DISSOLUTION STUDY COMMITTEE COULD COME OUT TODAY, THEORETICALLY--Chairman Tim Connolly says the first published report from the grant-funded study is an inventory of Town and Village services, as the Committee prepares for its first public forum. He says no options for any of those services will be in this report; that phase will perhaps bring more controversy. The Committee is weighing the pros and cons of dissolving the Village into the Town, with a final report due in October, 2012.

PIERREPONT HOUSE BURNS, COUPLE FORCED OUT, CAR LOST--Trucks rolled Monday afternoon about 3:45 to the residence of Linda and Wayne Major on Route 68. The fire started in the rear of the dwelling; Wayne was home and was able to escape safely

WELDING EMBER BLAMED FOR RUSSELL FIRE DAMAGE--Investigators say the ember set a wood pile on fire at the property of Frank Mackin on County Route 17 about 1:50pm. The burning wood pile set a structure ablaze. Nobody was hurt' damage was termed 'extensive'.

POTSDAM MAN ARRESTED ON FELONY, MISDEMEANORS, VIOLATION AFTER ALLEGED VIOLENCE AGAINST EX-GIRLFRIEND--Potsdam Police say they got a call late Monday morning that 23-year-old Cory Mc.Gregor allegedly entered the woman's residence by force, then punched and choked her. Mc. Gregor was charged with a felony count of second degree burglary, and lesser counts of attempted assault, criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, and unlawful possessionof marijuana. He was arraigned and released to probation supervision until future court dates.

PIERREPONT PLANE CRASH INVESTIGATED--A small, single-enging plane went down near Irish Settlement Road and County Route 24 about 12:45pm Saturday. A witness identified by the Watertown Daily Times as Dale Mc.Cormick said the pilot who did not disclose his name was not hurt. There was reportedly no record of the flight of the plane from the Oswego County Airport toward Potsdam. The plane is registered to a Cazenovia, NY man; Francis Allemang, Jr.
