SUNY POTSDAM PRESIDENT SAYS STUDENTS ON BOARD WITH TUITION HIKES--Dr. John Schwaller told 99 News Saturday campus presidents have been giving input to Chancellor Dr.Nancy Zimpher about budget concerns, that to ease the burden of massive cuts over the past few years that will continue, there will need to be support from tuition dollars. Schwaller says both the SUNY Potsdam Student Government Association and the larger SUNY student body both support a tuition increase.
BUDGET DEAL REACHED BETWEEN SENATE, ASSEMBLY, GOVERNOR--The agreement calls for a 2-percent, across-the-board cut. School aid saw a small amount of relief, 250-million-dollars out of a 1.5-billion-dollar proposal. Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver called the deal 'sobering, to say the least.'
OWENS TAKES CONSTITUENT INPUT SATURDAY IN POTSDAM FORUM--In a Town Hall Meeting on the SUNY Potsdam campus, the 23rd Congressional District Representative says the best chances for drawing jobs to the North Country come from Canadian comapnies, and to tap into the Adirondack forest for biomass--those would create living-wage jobs.
