RUSSELL: CUOMO SAYS OGDENSBURG CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IS 'SAFE' IN BUDGET, BUT FEAR IS ALWAYS THERE--118th Assembly District Representative Addie Russell says she has been told by Governor Andrew Cuomo he does not have his sights set on OCF as part of cuts to Corrections and many other operations, however she is alwways concerned and is watching the situation closely as are many others. The fight to save Ogdensburg Correctional took the collective might of a massive lobbying effort in 2010. Russell says the North Country will see massive cuts to SUNY and health care in particular when Cuomo unveils his budget next week. Russell was part of a meeting of Democratic majority Assembly members meeting at the Governor's mansion with Cuomo Tuesday morning.
SNOW PLOW HITS SNAG ON BRIDGE, COLLIDES WITH TWO OTHER VEHICLES--The Route 37 bridge in Ogdensburg was closed for a time as repairs were made after a state DOT plow caught a seam between segments about 10:40am. The plow stopped suddenly and struck a tractor-trailer; a car got caught underneath the rig. The driver of the car, 27-year-old Jesse Matthews of Ogdensburg received a cut to the hand and was treated at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center. The DOT repairs on the bridge are temporary; full repairs will be made in the spring.
