99 NEWS HEADLINES FOR SATURDAY, 1/22/11 LOCAL LEGISLATORS, FARM LOBBY EXPECT LABOR BILL TO BE REINTRODUCED--State Senator Patty Ritchie, Assemblyman Ken Blankenbush, and St.Lawrence County Farm Bureau President Jon Greenwood of Canton have all told 99 News in recent days they anticipate the Farm Labor Omnibus Act, that gives farmworkers mandatory overtime pay, set days of rest and other benefits to appear again this year. The measure was blocked twice last year by then-48th District Senator and Agriculture Committee Chair Darrel Aubertine. Ritchie now has Aubertine's seat and committee chairmanship. Upstate legislators and farmers staunchly oppose the bill, as they feel farming is not other businesses and should be treated as such.
