DISSOLUTION STUDY COMMITTEE TO EXAMINE FORM, FUNCTION, COST--The Potsdam Dissolution Study Committee met Wednesday to come up with some sort of mission statement. Consultant Charles Zettek told the group it's important to know who is obligated to whom--the Town is not required to take on Village responsibilities, if the Village decides to dissolve. He says it mystifies him that people think merging two governments into one automatically creates cost savings in every case.

FENTON TO BECOME POTSDAM VILLAGE ADMINISTRATOR--Trustees voted 5-0 Wednesday to hire longtime Treasurer David Fenton to the post to be vacated by retiring Michael Weil, effective Monday. Fenton has worked in local government as a police officer, in housing, and other functions and is a former Norwood Village Mayor. Fenton was hired at a salary of 81-thousand dollars with a 500 dollar raise in six months, and thousand-dollar raises after first and second years. Trustees told us they felt a 'sense of calm and reassurance' when they learned Fenton was interested.

OGDENSBURG FATHER AND SON PERISH IN MASSENA CAR CRASH--State Police say 58-year-old Peter Griffin, Sr. and his son 28-year-old Peter, Jr. were killed as they car they were in with the father behind the wheel traveled off Pontoon Bridge Road into trees near Owl Avenue. The crash is still under investigation.
