POTSDAM TRUSTEES ASKED TO CONSIDER APPOINTMENT TO NORTH COUNTRY POWER AUTHORITY BOARD--Village Administrator Mike Weil told Trustees Monday because of the population density of the community, the Village gets to select its own representative to the board of the public utility. Legislation was passed by the Senate and Assembly this year; Governor Paterson is expected to sign it into law soon. The utility would take over January 1st, 2012; Weil says that is an aggressive timetable and an appointment is needed soon.
SLU HAS NEW MAJOR--St.Lawrence University recently got approval for a combined environmental studies-math major. graduates can pursue Master's level work in environmental sciences or engineering, or pursue careers with public or private agencies that do environmental problem-solving and analysis. The new major was approved in time for this fall semester.
MC.GRATH STAYS ON ELECTION BALLOT--Democrat-Independence Assembly candidate Brian Mc.Grath, running for 112th Assembly District Seat, got a ruling in his favor with the Appellate Division of State Supreme Court, that a description of the office on signature sheets is specific enough. Republican-Conservative challenger Ken Blankenbush got a Supreme Court ruling in his favor earlier this month; Mc.Grath took it to the higher court.
